Five-star Harambee Stars steamroll past Seychelles in World Cup qualifier

The 5-0 win sees Kenya climb to third in Group F, three points behind joint leaders Ivory Coast and Gabon, who beat Gambia and Burundi, respectively.

Kenya grabbed its first three points in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Monday night, after thrashing Seychelles 5-0 at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Captain Michael Olunga got Harambee Stars up and running in the third minute with a low shot past keeper Carlos Simeon, before doubling the lead three minutes later with a finish from close range.

Al-Jabalain striker Masoud Juma made sure Kenya went into the break 3-0 up after reacting fast to a Johanna Omondi throw-in, beating a Seychelles defender, finishing with a rasping low shot.

Kenya Police leftback Aboud Omar, who came substituted in for AIK's Erick Otieno at the start of the second half, was on point to assist Gor Mahia's Rooney Onyango, who made it 4-0 on his debut in the 62nd minute.

Engin Firat put faith in Benson Omalla and brought him on six minutes past the hour mark. The K'Ogalo man made an instant impact, finishing from inside the box after good work on the flank from clubmate Rooney.

The win sees Kenya climb to third in Group F, three points behind joint leaders Ivory Coast and Gabon, who beat Gambia and Burundi, respectively.

Last Thursday, Harambee Stars kicked off their 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-1 away loss to Gabon at the Stade De Franceville.
